a piano duo recorded by Masako Ohta and Sebastian Giussani

The artists recorded their tracks simultaneously, but 81 km apart and without hearing each other.
The only thing they arranged exactly was the time when they would begin and when they would end recording.

Masako Ohta recorded on a well serviced Steinway grand piano in Munich, while Sebastian Giussani recorded on a ramshackle upright piano in Augsburg. Both recordings were merged with each other.

Yang is the first take from this recording session. It reflects on the idea that even if we don't share the same space, everything is still interconnected with each other. A second track, yin, has already been recorded and will be released on the upcoming Alligator Gozaimasu episode in 2022.

This track is based on a poem written by and a piano instrumental composed by Laura Theis (Oxford, UK) during a hybrid art and music exchange hosted by the Antonie-Leins-Künstler*innenhaus and the Stadtmuseum in Horb am Neckar (Germany) in August 2021. Together with Klaus Erika Dietl (Munich, Germany), Either Or (Tucson, Arizona, USA), Helena Hartmann (Ahaus, Germany) and Stephanie Müller (Munich, Germany), Laura Theis worked on "Koyotenzauber und Wettergesang" (Coyote Magic and Weather Voices), a trilogy of interventions in public space.

Back then they followed the path of Christina Rauscher. In the 17th century she managed to stop the prosecution of so-called witches in her district and beyond. Following her strong, weak, desparate and empowering moments, the artists performed at different locations in Horb am Neckar. Amongst others in the midst of the archive where all the delicate witch hunt documents (15th, 16th and 17th century) are still stored. Laura Theis developed a series of compositions and texts for the public interventions.

07 an ode to a dweller's lost soul

For „an ode to a dweller's lost soul“ Iñaki Rocha Echevarría merged some tracks from his personal archive together with Alligator Gozaimasu´s recordings and created a musical collage composition.

It consists of some sample cuts from „Concierta Frecuencia“, an artistic project realized in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 2014. Back then Iñaki Rocha Echevarría used a metronome, a slide guitar with pedals and a piano.

He combined all this with fragments of the Alligator Gozaimasu radio session recorded on the 17th of October 2020 in Chemnitz (Germany). The sonic session was hosted by EX:IN, a platform for experimental irritations in sound and music initiated by Chris Münster.

During the sound session the whole room was an instrument on its own (amongst others: shruti box, prepared sewing machine, zither, electronic guitars, bass synthesizer, oud and percussions). oni Lihs, Hannes P. , Jens Ausderwäsche, Mock Universe, Serial Motky and a couple more sound and music lovers joined in.

Besides sample cuts from „Concierta Frecuencia“ and fragments from the Alligator Gozaimasu session in Chemnitz, Iñaki Rocha Echevarría also worked with sonic traces from Alligator Gozaimasu's „Kekuasaan“ track which was recorded in collaboration with IN/EX for Senyawa's Alkisah release in winter 2020.

Iñaki Rocha Echevarría titled this song „an ode for a dweller´s lost soul“ because it defines ones quest through expressing a journey of forgotten pieces.

11 Eddo Budhampa (Sokoraya remix)

Eddo Budhampa is a bahldanian rap style, where a rap singer and dancer (here Iannis) decides and dominates the beat of a soundsystem, not the other way round. This is highly energetic and vibrant and can be found in most underground clubs in Bahldania. A Sokoraya remix is a frozen battle between a vocal artist and an electronic and acoustic percussion ensemble.

DAAN is „the way“ in Tagalog. Tagalog is one of the main languages spoken in the Philippines and it is the national language of the country.

The composition is based on a a fragment of an Alligator Gozaimasu radio sound session recorded on the 17th of October 2020 in Chemnitz (Germany). The sonic session was hosted by EX:IN, a platform for experimental irritations in sound and music initiated by Chris Münster.

During the sound session the whole room was an instrument on its own (amongst others: shruti box, prepared sewing machine, zither, electronic guitars, bass synthesizer, oud and percussions). oni Lihs, Hannes P. , Jens Ausderwäsche, Mock Universe, Serial Motky and a couple more sound and music lovers joined in.
Back then Iñaki Rocha Echevarría aka Convs also joined the Alligator Gozaimasu sound session with a series of diy instruments (electro acoustic drone string lance with ebow, a spring reverb, mic mask and multi effects processor and pedals). For DAAN he added a guitar with space echo and some audio mastering.

ALLIGATOR GOZAIMASU *** The XXL group

ALLIGATOR GOZAIMASU is made of many hearts, heads, voices and noises. The sound collective with about 60 members, spread all over the world, is back on the map with their upcoming release: Solange bunte Balken durchlaufen (engl.: As Long As Render Bars Go Colourful). The album title refers to the process of rendering in audio or video editing programmes.
The centerpiece of the XXL band is the experimental pop group beißpony (ChicksOnSpeed Records/ RagRec). In the midst of the lockdown beißpony's percussionist and songwriter Stephanie Müller reactivated a music collaboration that had already started in 2014. In spring 2020, step by step, more artists and sound lovers joined in.

During the process of sharing sonic fragments, voices and noises online, the collective decided to try an album in episodes: an album that is open for all the different circumstances and needs of such a large band, an album that celebrates mood swings and listens closely to the different tempi in these days.

The album * Solange Bunte Balken Durchlaufen * As Long As Render Bars Go Colourful

Something vague is raising its voice inbetween the lines. The ninth episode consists of 18 songs. They swing along with all the ups and downs of the these days. The episode celebrates the beauty of friendship. In August 2021 round about 35 collective members had the chance to meet for the very first time and improvise together live in Munich. During the festival the artists made new friends and started new ways of collaborating with each other.

Cover Artwork

"Alligator's honey is dripping over a Lorenz-Strange-Attractor in the Field of Love."

The cover artwork is based on ink traces triggered by a swarm of bees during the Alligator:Go! Festival in August 2021. Back then sound artist and beekeeper Mucho Pitchu installed a bee basket that included a microphone system in a linden tree's crown and connected it with a Lorenz-Strange-Attractor to make the bees' sounds visible. The cover also shows drops of the bee's honey. Klaus Erika Dietl is the one who put it all together for the episode's artwork.

The release

Starting in July 2020 sound lovers are heartily invited to enter ALLIGATOR GOZAIMASU's sonic cosmos and to join the journey as long as render bars go colourful. Each release will be shared via bandcamp. All contributions will be donated. This time to Sea Watch e.V..
